- It is true that part of McKenna's dialogue revolves around what he believes
- was one of the driving forces in evolution. This was the incorporation of
- hallucinogenic mushrooms into the diet of roving bands of monkeys. It was
- found on the dung of cattle.
-
- In short McKenna says that small doses of psilocybin increase visual acuity
- (which has apparently been proven although I did not read the original
- papers). This would impart an advantage to tribes of monkeys that were
- hunting.
-
- Higher doses of the same substance increase the desire to copulate and if
- more copulation goes on there is more successful copulation and an increase
- in the size of the tribe.
-
- Then when even higher doses are used there is the whole the process of self
- reflection and self awareness increases.
-
- Something or "things" contributed to the extremely rapid development brain
- and mind. This certainly could have contributed, but who knows. There is
- certainly evidence that mushrooms were used about 17000 yrs ago, but beyond
- that seems speculative at best.
