  20. Yeah, right.  How soon we forget that the original purpose of
  21. alt.personals was, uhh, you know, personals.  Back then, the cry
  22. was "keep your mindless babble in the appropriate mindless-babble
  23. groups like alt.sex and soc.singles."  And then the noisy cretins,
  24. with their deliberately obtuse bullbleep about "but if it's about
  25. me, it's personal, so there," spoiled this group completely,
  26. so alt.personals.ads was created for, uhh, you know, personal ads.
  27. Now the same gang of idiots, or their intellectual peers, are shouting
  28. "But if it advertises my personality, it must be a personal ad,
  29. so there."  Anyone for creating alt.personals.ads.only?  And then, a
  30. year later, we'll have alt.personals.ads.only.really.i.mean.it, and then
  31. alt.personals.ads.for.people.who.are.advertising.to.meet.other.people.
  32. with.specific.characteristics.and.thats.all.nothing.else.really.

  34. It won't help.  One of the Eternal Truths of Usenet: there's no escaping
  35. from idiots.

  37. ObPersonal: hey, I don't have to put an ObPersonal here, because
  38. this is alt.personals, where personals are not obligatory.  However,
  39. if any literate and articulate person would like to exchange mail with
  40. a 30-something straight white male, who is not looking for anything in
  41. particular, with the object of fun in whatever form it might take, well,
  42. that would be ok.
