- Okay, time for a short etymology lesson.
-
- Middle English:
- wicca (pron. Witch-ah) - A male witch. (We've been around for a _long_ _time_)
- wicce (pron. Witch-eh) - A female witch.
- [Both of the above lose the final vowel and become 'witch' in Modern English]
- wiccan (pron. Witch-an) - Witches.
-
- As for warlock, there is actually some controversy over the correct
- etymology. Could be from Saxon waer-loge 'oath breaker', or equally
- likely from the more innocuous Danish vardlokkar 'Spell singer'.
- In either case, it certainly is _not_ more correct than Witch to describe
- a male practitioner of Witchcraft.
-
- Sorry, don't have sources at hand; my spelling may be off slightly.
