  12.     He opened his eyes.  Another alternate universe, he thought.
  13. A young woman, face half-covered with tousled, greasy-looking dark hair,
  14. was asleep in bed next to him.  The bedsheets were pink, with stylized
  15. blue flowers and ruffled trim.  He broke wind, and the magical fart
  16. drifted over to the sleeping woman and made her into a big bowl of
  17. chocolate mousse.  He styled his hair with some, and had the rest as
  18. breakfast in bed.
  19.     The whole apartment was excessively feminine: it giggled deliciously
  20. from time to time, sprayed itself with perfume, and ran up huge bills for
  21. huge ducks from compulsive shopping.  He contemplated a transformation
  22. into the woman who had become the mousse, but decided that it was too
  23. predictable a twist in the plot.  Instead he nipped 'round to the Japanese
  24. head shop down the street, and had his head replaced with a Japanese one.
  25.     In a state of euphorbia (a hybrid of uncertain ancestry, but
  26. with ancestors including E. pulcherrima, E. splendens, E. platyclada, and
  27. E. caput-medusae) he staggered to his bank to withdraw seventy-five cents
  28. and from the presidential race riots in Watts, Kilowatts, and Megawatts.
  29. The cute little bank teller stole his heart and had it airlifted to Inhumana
  30. Hospital in Knoxville, where it was transplanted into a baboon from the
  31. Brothelton Zoo, whose own heart had been transplanted into a little girl
  32. the previous year.  Heartless now, he killed the entire staff and rod and
  33. stick and cane of the bank with his halitosis, plundered their bodies for
  34. small change and mascara, and ran off into the night, eyelashes dark and
  35. thick.
