- The World of Mizar is going down for good in January.
-
- There are several reasons for this. One of the major ones is that none
- of the local gods, with the necessary access to the machines, have the
- time to continue.
-
- Another reason is that the game has been up for about 2.5 year.
- (I think... I started it, but can't remember exactly when we opened.)
- It's been very popular has grown very large, with some problems with
- inflation as usual. (But not as bad as in many other games I've seen.)
- We have the feeling that the The World of Mizar has reached it's peak,
- from now on it will only grow larger, the inflation increases, we use
- up more and more disk space and computrons...
-
- I prefer to close it while it's at the top, insead of seeing change into
- something I wouldn't like, or being closed by the someone for using
- too much machine resources...
-
- Interestingly enough, I never ever advertised it anywhere myself, when it
- opened the first time. A few friends where the first players, and then
- the word seemed to spread anyway...
-
- We have tried to keep The World of Mizar a "non-bashing", quest-oriented
- game, and I think we succeeded. The word is, that it was a friendly game
- but hard to wiz in.
-
- It was fun as long as it lasted, but all good things must come to an end
- (and should do so before they turn bad).
-
- Thank's to everybody who made the hundreds of hours we spent on the game
- worthwhile. (I wont mention the other kind, who usually got themselves
- banished anyway... ;-)
-
- Just for fun, here are some statistics I collected shortly before the
- shutdown was announced:
-
- ----
- The game was restarted twice a day (to save swapspace).
- Before shutdown the process size usually reached 13-14 MB of which most of
- it was continuously swapped in.
