- Bob Valentine asks about my oxygen sensor:
- " Are you using some form of commerical unit with the 02 sensor,
- or a home made one 8->. If it's home made, could you provide
- some details?"
-
-
- Yes, it is home made. I posted a description of it several months ago
- here on the hotrod list; it's probably in the archives. I'll recap
- it briefly:
-
- A Borg_warner OS-109 heated oxygen sensor is installed in the side
- of a piece of exhaust pipe which slips over my tailpipe. The sensor's
- signal is fed to an op amp buffer and then to an analog panel meter
- which is calibrated to read from 0 to 1 volt (I used a cheap surplus
- meter; new analog meters are outrageously expensive these days).
-
- Since the sensor is at the end of a long piece of pipe there is a
- bit of lag when adjusting at idle speeds but this is easy to get
- used to.
-
- The sensor is being run in the voltage generation mode. I have plans
- to change over to constant voltage mode because that will extend the
- AFR range over which it is useful. As it is, the AFR is pure guesswork
- other than knowing that 0.5 volts is stoich. Maybe I'll get the
- chance to build to build the CV circuitry over Christmas - the design
- is done and has been waiting for me.
-
- BTW, I chose the OS-109 because it was the cheapest heated sensor that I
- could get from a local discount store. If you want more details then
- e-mail me. Our plant is shut down from December 24 thru January 3
- so if you don't hear from me soon it will be a while :-).
