  31. It seems more sensible that he would be dead.  In theories of the supernatural,
  32. it has been postulated that for dead people, there is a 'zone' which hovers
  33. right before the proper afterlife, where confused dead people who don't under-
  34. stand that they are dead, ghosts and whatnot, live.  Also, the semantics of 
  35. Louie's statement could be interpreted differently...

  43. Louie himself [I am assuming Louie was the Ladder researcher, discard this
  44. paragraph entirely if that is wrong] was also dead. I believe that him
  45. explaining to Jake about the "Ladder" drug vindicated both of them; Louie
  46. gets it off his chest and can go off to the afterlife, while Jake starts
  47. to figure out what's going on.
