- Hi,
-
- I've downloaded dcview20 to my microcomputer, and I've some questions
- about it:
-
- 1. I'd already tested the previous version of dcview (both for dos and
- windows), and stoped using it shortly after, due to the fact that
- both versions didn't load 24-bit BMPs correctly (the colors get
- mixed, and the pic is distorted as if the program interpreted it's
- width and/or height incorrectly). About that, I tried converting the
- BMP files to diferent file-formats. When fed with old-style BMPs
- (COREHEADERS) dcview doesn't even recognize that it doesn't support
- this format. Using OS2 formats doesn't work either. It's worth to say
- that PaintBrush, Borland's Resource Workshop, and many other programs
- do read those 24-bits standard format bitmaps. I tried this new
- version of dcview on the BMPs and once again it failed.
-
- 2. I have a SVGA board (with VESA compatible BIOS) capable of managing
- 800x600 hi-color (15 or 16 bits of color per pixel) and 600x480
- true color (24 bits/pixel). Well, in the last version of dcview, I
- recall it didn't have any problems using these extended resolution
- modes, but this new version doesn't display correctly on either (menus
- and mouse bitmap included). The board is from STB and uses Cirrus-Logic
- components. The VESA driver suplied for Cirrus is and old version, that
- doesn't even recognizes the components on the board (this is a minor
- issue, since most of the time I'm working inside of Windows).
-
- Despite those problems, I find that this version of dcview has some very
- interesting features (such as editing/merging and many more), and I wish the
- next one solves the above mentioned backdraws.
-
- Well, If I'm wrong about anything I said, receiving some tips wold be
- greatly appreciated.
-
- Thank you,
-
