- Re: Rubicon
-
- I got "What Starts, Ends", the new album by Rubicon, and it seems very clear
- to me that the "brutality" side of Fields of the Nephilim came not from
- Carl McCoy, but from the rest of the band. "What Starts, Ends" is very
- much a rock album, and not much like Elizium.
-
- "What Starts, Ends" is pretty good, but Rubicon still needs work. In general
- it's slightly overproduced and a bit choppy. Basically, the band needs to
- develop itself and get sone cohesiveness. They've got a tendency to go off
- on a speed metal tangent at times, and the singer (who I think has a pretty
- good voice) needs to learn when to use the different styles of singing he
- uses (melodic, deep, deepish husky). They've got some great stuff that just
- needs to be used right. "Crazed" is the best song on the album, primarilly
- because all their cylinders were firing. It's cohesive, cleanly done, it
- doesn't break into unnecessary tangents, and the singer uses his voice right.
- "Brave Hearts" is also well done, but it doesn't have the strength of
- "Crazed".
-
- If you don't have to pay high import prices and you're either a Nephilim
- completionist or like heavy rock music, I'd get "What Starts, Ends". If
- you have to pay high import prices, I'd try to find someone who has it and
- give it a listen. Failing that, get the "Crazed" single and base your
- purchase decision on that. (I bought the single, then bought the album)

- What's the latest word on when Carl McCoy will be releasing his new stuff?
