- Have any of you ever been to Gore Orphanage Road? I've been there
- several times. It's a genuinely spooky landscape. Don't know if
- any ghosts hang out there, but the atmosphere is wonderful for
- telling ghost stories.
-
- Local legends say an orphanage there burned down around 1900.
- Some variations on the story say the nuns operating the place fled
- and left the children to die; others say the kids died because the
- doors opened inwards, and in the rush to get out dozens of the orphans
- got crammed against the door and couldn't escape the fire.
-
- In any event, rumor has it you can hear the children screaming in
- the night & perhaps even catch a glimpse of the ghosts.
-
- I've always wanted to research the local history of the road to see
- how much of the orphanage stories are based in fact. I think it's
- in Elyria or Vermilion-- can't recall exactly where.
