-
- ....well, 'slike this barnum: Once upon a time (in WW2) there was United
- States submarine, ss-197. She was called the Seawolf. Unfortunately for her,
- a US destroyer thought she belonged to a country somewhat to your north and
- sunk her, killing all hands.
-
- Then this little fellow named Hyman Rickover decided, with the help of General
- Electric, to build another Seawolf (SSN-575), only this time she didn't burn
- diesel oil, she split uranium atoms and boiled water using liquid sodium as
- the primary coolant.
-
- (HGR decided that liquid sodium wasn't such a good idea for submerged
- warships, so he pulled the liquid sodium plant and replaced it with a
- pressurized water plant after a couple of years.) 575 was reassigned to
- razorblade duty around '86-87.
-
- The new Seawolf, SSN-21 (meaning nuclear submaring for the 21'st century) was
- designed to be the follow-on SSN to the 688 (Los Angeles class) vessels. Her
- future is in doubt. Seawolf was on the drawing board long before Red Storm
- Rising. Clancy had zip point nada to do w/ it.

- apply direct pressure until the bleeding stops, take 1200 ug. of Delusid [sp?]
