- In the past, .sigs used to be static. Quotes, if included as part of the
- .sig, were unchanging unless the user manually changed it. This was a
- laborious task. However, recent advances in programming techniques, coupled
- with a new flexibility of thinking, led to the breakthrough--the
- combining of .sig files with fortune programs coupled with a quotes file.
- A new interface was created for the viewing of .sig files. Instead of a
- static quote manually inserted into the .sig, the user could now pull down
- a pull down menu, in which a randomly-selected quote would appear. Thus
- could users have many quotes in a .sig, while still keeping it within the
- four-line limit. Now...what's that? The .sig in the example, is still five
- lines long, even without the pull down menu? You're right! Excellent point,
- I'm glad you mentioned it. Something I meant to bring up earlier: no amount
- of new software can help dysfunctional users.
