- The quote from Tolkien as to who should do the illustrations for _The Hobbit_,
- (original release) was "to veto anything from or influenced by the Disney
- studios (for all whose works I hae a heartfelt loathing)" {as quoted in
- _The Annotated Hobbit_, p.2}. So I would call it doubtful that Disney would
- have given any rights to Disney later, nor would his family, respecting his
- opinions. Albeit, the rights being given to Ranking&Bass surely couldn't have
- been worse than a Disney effort(!?). But you may be right, that at a later
- time, Disney acquired the rights, but didn't act, I haven't read _Letters_ to
- know one way or the other.
