  28. Dino DeLaurentis did not direct Dune (he was the producer).  Dune
  29. was directed by David Lynch (yes, Mr. Twin Peaks).  Although I am a 
  30. fan of Mr. Lynch, I personally feel Dune was an unmitigated disaster.
  31. Even Mr. Lynch was so ashamed of the film (or at least the TV cut) that 
  32. he had his name removed from the television release.  Observant viewers 
  33. will notice that version is directed by "Alan Smitty", a generic name 
  34. used in Hollywood to mean "For the sake of my career, please remove me 
  35. from the list of credits on this film."

  37. Terry Gilliam is one of my favourite directors, and should be able to do 
  38. LOTR some justice.  However, I'm not sure how his love of the absurd will
  39. translate to a Middle Earth setting.  He'd probably come up with a good
  40. Gollum  :-)
