  11. The New Shostakovich is certainly the best book on DSCH to date!  
  12. Both from the point of view of biography and musical analysis.
  13. Northeastern Univ. Press, Boston, 1990. I dont think a softcover
  14. has been published yet.  ($30!)
  15. Ian MacDonald is described only as "a music journalist who also
  16. writes and records hos own music."
  17. The research is extensive and impressive.  And, you don't have to
  18. read Testimony first.  All this is covered in the introductory "Prelude".
  19. I highly recommmend it as must reading for anyone in this alt. group.
