- The New Shostakovich is certainly the best book on DSCH to date!
- Both from the point of view of biography and musical analysis.
- Northeastern Univ. Press, Boston, 1990. I dont think a softcover
- has been published yet. ($30!)
- Ian MacDonald is described only as "a music journalist who also
- writes and records hos own music."
- The research is extensive and impressive. And, you don't have to
- read Testimony first. All this is covered in the introductory "Prelude".
- I highly recommmend it as must reading for anyone in this alt. group.
