  29. Lessee... $25K/yr is ~$2100/mo.  AFDC for a family composed of a
  30. single mother and two children in California (not a very chincy state
  31. as states go) is $505/mo.  WIC comes in at somewhere around $150/mo if
  32. you qualify.  Food stamps -- I have no clue; gotta be at least
  33. $100/mo.  Still, the numbers don't look promising.

  35. Minimum wage is $4.35/hr, or $754/mo gross with a 40/hr work week.
  36. Typically, no benefits (oh, sorry, I forgot Medicaid doesn't cost
  37. anything and we were talking about cash flow weren't we... oops).

  39. protection that part-time employees don't.

  43. Anyway, what's the deal here?  Is welfare a `cycle of poverty' that
  44. traps people on welfare because they make less money at minimum wage
  45. jobs than on welfare, or are welfare recipients mostly a bunch of
  46. fat, lazy `welfare queens' bilking the taxpayers out of hard-earned
  47. lucre just because they don't want to work for more money than they
  48. get on welfate?
