- : The reason most liberals (tm) think of evangelists as representing
- : all Christians (also tm) is because the right-wing conservatives
- : allow the evangelists to represent themselves as the voice of America.
-
- Just like Clinoccio's cabinet represents america? A perfect parallel,
- because both assertions are false... Someone like Pat Robertson simply
- has a large audience of likely voters for conservative candidates. As
- the polling data showed, for example, those who voted based upon the
- abortion issue were almost 100% conservatives. It is simply hard to find
- a democrat to vote for who shared their opinions... Unlike the democrats,
- the republicans simply allowed people of significance to speak, whether
- they represented the majority of the party or not. Have you EVER watched
- the 700 Club? I tune in for the news about twice a year, and I found it
- surprising that they showed stories about police brutality against Gay
- protestors in SF and put a negative (anti-police) slant on it. SUrprise!

- : The televangelists and right-wingers like Pat Robertson, who use religion
- : as an excuse to further their own political agenda (and their $$).
-
- If you have an open mind, consider that Robertson is simply interested in
- countering the massive waves of anti-religious activism of recent decades.
- It is ok for anti-religious agenda pushers to use political means to further
- their ends, right?
-
- : But I think churches (and synogogues, and mosques...) should not be taxed,
- : for a very simple reason- "No taxation without representation". Remember
- : that? One of those founding principles of America thingys? The founding
- : fathers wanted this to be a free country. Separation of church and state,
- : and all that. So the simplest way to keep churches from being able
- : to be active in politics is to take away their taxes. No taxation, no
- : representation. Anyone who wants churches to be taxed, but agree
- : to let them have a political agenda.
- :
-
- This makes little sense. Where in the constitution is it prohibited for
- a church member to vote? Or for that matter, how is a church less represented
- by government than, say, IBM? The real answer is double-taxation and the
- concept of charitable contributions...
