  26. Most of the examples presented - maybe all - can be analyzed in terms
  27. of the conflict between those who follow the libertarian tradition
  28. and those who follow a right-wing interventionist tradition. This is
  29. indeed the principle dilemma of the Republican party, and creates for
  30. them the same sort of 'identity crisis' that has bedeviled the
  31. Democrats since 1980 or so.

  33. The two leading Presidential candidates-in-waiting, Kemp and Quayle,
  34. represent these two wings rather explicitly, and it will be interesting
  35. to see how things shake out during the next few years.
