- Ok, as promised, I just wrote myself a program to check /usr/dict/words.
- As I understand it, we are looking for any word which is Wiz-palindromic,
- defined as normal palindromic, except that the matching letter at the tail
- end of the word should be the mirror-image letter symetrically as shown
- above. Meaning that a=z, b=y, c=x, etc. If I have this correctly, Wizard
- does in fact still show up, as do all of the following. Note that I left
- in all the odd length words (except the single character ones) even though
- strictly speaking, unlike normal palindromes, you can't rotate on a letter
- because it will not match itself.
-
- Here are my words:
-
-
- AZ bay bevy bey bigotry boy
- buy by cox Croix dew Dow
- flu get ghost GMT got grit
- gut his h's IR Lao Leo
- lo man men min MN NM
- oil owl Polk RI shish tag
- tog trig tug UHF vee verve
- vie wad wed wizard wold world
- would
-
- Of these, only:
- AZ bevy by grit h's IR
- lo MN NM Polk RI trig
- wizard wold
-
- strictly match (because of the middle character on odd-numbered ones).
-
- Since many of these aren't really words, but state acronyms and such, the
- only truly matching words are:
-
- bevy by grit wizard
-
- (Pluse Polk and wold, which I don't know what they are, and trig, which I
- think is really only an abreviation for trigonometry).
-
- Now, having done all this totally useless and time-wasting stuff, I think
- I'll post this and let someone else chew on it for a while. :-)
-
- Will.
