- As Joel (err. well actually Nigel..) said, it's possible he was doing
- it for treats (I would do backflips for peanuts too, if I had to live
- on Purina Monkey Chow).
-
- It seems more likely that it's a case of stereotypical behaviour (also
- known as zoo neurosis). He is simply bored out of his little lemur
- mind, and it's the best thing he can think to do.
-
- Did he continue to backflip for long periods of time (like an hour or
- two at a strech)? Does he repeat the exact same sequence over and
- over? If so, the keepers need to find some new ways to keep their
- lemurs entertained. A bored lemur is not a healthy lemur.
-
- I'm sure Nigel can suggest some good lemur games that they could play.
- Perhaps "frink the National Geographic photographer". Of course that
- would probably not be allowed in a public zoo display.
-
- Seriously though this is a big problem with zoo animals, especially
- the reasonably intelligent ones.
