- CON REPORT FOR EVECON 10
-
-
- EveCon (and its July Counterpart, CastleCon), are sponsored by
- Fantek Inc, of Fort Washington, Maryland and normally held mthe first weekend
- after the new Year. Its known mostly for its eclectic attendees, live-action
- roleplaying, and unusual events. EveCon also more people "in costume" and
- participating in activities. Groups like cyperpunks, neo-pagans, medieval
- knights, belly dancers, and fans of nearly every science fiction show.
- However, there is little furry presence at Evecon. In fact, I was not
- going to write this report until I saw all those virus posts and figured people
- could use a break.
- For me the convention began Thursday Night when Peter "Speet" Stoller
- spent the night at my place and hand-colored a print for the EveCon art show
- while I played furrymuck. Becuase of the quick thinking of Karen_Larson, my
- characters were not infecteded. {The next day we made the hour drive from
- Baltimore to Arlington Virginia for the con.
- Most of my time and a fair amount of Speet's was spent in the computer
- room and impromtu artist's alley set up by Digital Dreamworks of Sterling
- Virginia. There Speet did more hand coloring and talked along with local furry
- artist Roni (who should be at ConFurence 4). Among the setups were 2 Mac II
- cis playing Spectre against each others; pcs with Wolfenstein 3D, Dune, and
- Scorched Earth, an old Atari 8-bit, and *gag* an Amiga with Lemmings.
- As for actual con activities, there was very little in the way of furry
- stuff--no furry party, no furry costumes, and not much furry art at all (the
- big empahsis was on dragons and vampires). The only furrymuckers there were my
- self, Leona, and Armadillo. Of the 4 hand-colored prints Speet drew, one sold
- for $15 and another for $30.
- EveCon is always doomed to have a small furry presence; its location
- (Washington DC area) and timing (right in between PhilCon and ConFurence) limit
- its appeal to local fur fans. However, this is a nice con to hang around and
- be part of anyway. Its like what other fan-run conventions were like when they
- were good.
