- Once again, marketing can only do so much. If the comics aren't appealing
- to begin with, then even the slickest ad agency in New York won't be able to
- help much. Such was the case with Disney Comics. Anyone who read them
- knows most of the non-reprint titles left a lot to be desired (a large part
- of the problem, apparently, was due to the fact that the editors weren't
- very familiar with the characters they were handling). While the theme
- parks attract lots of people, there are still only two of them, and only a
- few dozen Disney stores. Compare that with the hundreds of newsstands,
- comic specialty shops, and other retail outlets where Disney Comics were
- sold. Certainly, having them available at those other venues would have
- helped. But if kids wouldn't buy them at CUB Foods, then they probably
- wouldn't buy them at Disneyland, either.

- Very true. Getting published on a regular basis helps, too. I believe
- the general rule is that any comic that can come out regularly for 18
- months will find its audience, whatever audience that might be.
