  17. Hmm.  I recall that when I read this treatise, it contained a footnote
  18. describing what was meant by "controlled schizophrenia."  The term
  19. refers to what takes place when a writer places himself in the mind of
  20. his created character in order to explore the reactions that the
  21. character would have in the story.  This is hardly insanity; it is
  22. actually creativity.
