  22. There is nothing in the Constitution that prevents the President from
  23. granting a self-pardon, especially if impeachment proceedings have not yet 
  24. begun.  In fact, rumor has it that Tricky Dicky actually considered it...

  26. In any case, as far as "Iran-Contra" is concerned, the point is moot: by
  27. allowing their dogs to shred everything that wasn't nailed down, by doing
  28. their utmost to cripple justice -- "obstruct" is too weak a word -- for
  29. more than six years, and by farting in the general direction of Congress
  30. and the American people, both Reagan and Bush have by now generated enough
  31. of a smoke screen that they have *effectively* pardoned themselves.
