  13.   Ok, so I know I shouldn't be looking for meaning in the lyrics of
  14. R.E.M.'s songs, but for several weeks now, I have been resisting the
  15. urge to release my theory (which is mine) that their latest hit
  16. single, "Drive", is a tribute to the Iran-Contra thing.

  18.   I got the CD for Christmas and immediately popped it in.  I listened
  19. to the song several times while thumbing through my collection of
  20. Iran-Contra trading cards.  I offer here three phrases which support my 
  21. theory:

  23.    Snap, crack, Bush whack,
  24.    Tie another one to your rack, baby.
  25.     (Reference to George Bush)

  28.    Hey, kids, where are you,
  29.    Nobody tells you what to do
  30.     (Reference to Ollie North, mastermind of Iran-Contra.  
  31.      Currently planning his rise as Dictator of the Americas)

  35.     (Reference to Theodore Shackley, involved in CIA covert
  36.      operations since 1960.  Commander of Covert operations
  37.      in 1976-77 under George Bush.  Member of the Reagan
  38.      presidency transition team in 1980-81).

  40. The evidence pretty much speaks for itself.  I wish I had more time to
  41. pursue this, but I'm currently finishing up research on my theory that
  42. Elvis was an undercover agent for the FBI during the Nixon
  43. administration.

  53. It's tempting to beleive that this could explain why Bush was 
  54. obligated to choose Danny as his running mate.  Sure, it's a long 
  55. shot, but weigh that against the theory that Bush actually beleived 
  56. that Dan was qualified to be vice president.
