  13. Hello. I just started reading this group and thought I'd make a few
  14. comments/questions.

  16. (1) Sometimes I will wake from a dream and be paralysed. I had
  17. assumed this was due to whatever it is that makes me not actually
  18. act out stuff while having REM sleep, just hasn't worn off yet. I
  19. recall being quite frightened by this as a kid though... often it
  20. would happen when I woke up from already terrifying dreams.

  22. (2) Sometimes I have dreams where for some reason in the dream I
  23. cannot keep my eyes open. I will need them open, and can open them
  24. with effort, but in the dream it is more comfortable for them to be
  25. closed and then I can't see anything. Does anyone know what causes
  26. this? I wonder if it is me noticing that my eyes are closed in 'real
  27. life'?

  29. (3) Languages in dreams.... I am bilingual (Japanese and English)
  30. and I dream in both languages, often mixed together. In my dreams,
  31. there will be people who I know in real life only speak English,
  32. speaking Japanese (or the other way round). If there are other
  33. bilingual dreamers out there... does this happen with your dreams
  34. too, or do you tend to stick to one language for one dream? Do people
  35. speak the 'correct' language in your dreams?

  37. (4) Reading in dreams.... I have found that often I will be reading
  38. signs, etc. in my dreams. I have noticed that I see mostly signs
  39. written in Chinese characters in my dreams as opposed to things
  40. written in English. I had seen somewhere that people who can read
  41. Chinese characters often will dream of reading more than those who
  42. don't simply because characters are a 'sight reading' sort of
  43. pattern recognition as opposed to phonics. Anyone else heard of
  44. this? Unfortunately I never seem to remember to look at the signs
  45. twice to see if they change. ^_^

  47. (5) About the 'tetris dreams'.... I think that if you are doing
  48. something for long periods of time it will just carry over into your
  49. dreams. I often will spend all day studying for some test and then
  50. end up studying even in my DREAMS the night before. This is a peeve.

  52. (6) The lucid dreaming threads are quite fascinating. I have only
  53. had a few lucid dreams which seemed to occur spontaneously (I can't
  54. think "I want to have a lucid dream" and then have one). I do recall
  55. several dreams per night, and like to write them down in a notebook.
  56. I find them to be a good source of plots and characters for writing.
