- I remember reading somewhere 2 or three years ago about some scheme where
- upon you would be able to 'buy' a life long telephone number that would
- be the same wherever you moved. Supposedly advanced telephone technology
- would dothis for us. I guess they'd have several 'Area Codes' that would
- be for these special numbers. Or some such scheme. Anybody but me here
- of this?
-
- And on Telemarketing calls.
- For the last year I have had a little box hooked into my phone system.
- When I activate thsi, anybody who calls gets a little voice that tells
- the to 'punch in their secret number now'. I can set a 4 digit #, and
- pass it to only those people I want to talk with at any and all times.
- If you don't have that number, my phone system won't let you reach me.
- Handy little box for having a quiet evening without telemarketing scum.
- I bought mine out of a damark catalogue for $69.00
-
- Not much to do with Caller ID, which down here was just made illegal,
- But helpful if you want some peace and quiet, but you want Mom to be able
- to call you without any hassles. And you can always change your secret #
- if you ever have a 'Fatal Attraction" ex-girlfriend problem. A lot
- cheaper than paying to change your phone #.
-
- Keeps crank calls off your line too.
