  28. Then argue it.  I'm sure that everyone will agree that it would be good
  29. to get the guns away from the murderers and thieves, but just grabbing
  30. guns from anybody you can reach is quite different.  My fear is that,
  31. just as it happened in our own nation's capitol, disarmament will hit
  32. the innocent far more than the guilty.

  34. Taking guns away from innocent people is, in the best possible case,
  35. pointless.  If the guilty still have their guns, disarming the innocent
  36. is signing their death warrants.

  42. Not precisely -- the problem is that some people are starving, not that
  43. others aren't.  A nit, perhaps, but I do tend to read things literally.

  45. Anyway, his objection is valid.  Why would a thief give you his only gun
  46. for some food, when he knows that he can make people give him food for
  47. nothing?  I can understand somebody making that trade if they are
  48. unwilling to steal, but what's the point?

  50. There is another reason for us not to try to disarm Somalia.  If we let
  51. others expand our mission, when will the mission end?  We shouldn't have
  52. sent troops in the first place, not without public debate; adding
  53. another task only compounds the error.
