  27. If it's an attempt, it's a *really* lame attempt.  If I want to
  28. start an alt.games.vampire group, I don't start posting 1000 line
  29. posts about Vampire in alt.config.  Posting stuff that would fit
  30. the charter of the proposed group in alt.config or news.groups 
  31. has never been a good way to convince people a group is needed.
  32. The last time I remember seeing that kind of thing was 
  33. misc.activism.progressive, and that didn't go over too well 
  34. either.  Again -- Joel is either playing another joke or dumb.

  43. valid attitude.  If I flunk out of university because I don't
  44. take it seriously, they're going to be less likely to let me in
  45. again.  Past actions count.

  52. record, but I think that's been done adequately.

  59. Uh, yeah, I know I'm a real annoyance and I'm sure these two
  60. discussion groups are real anxious to get back to, well, ASCII
  61. cows.  Look, I don't think people who propose groups as a joke
  62. should be listened to.  Joke alt groups are part of the reason
  63. so many sites don't get the useful alt groups.  Therefore, I
  64. think Joel's motivations *are* fit topic for discussion.  We
  65. really don't need another group that'll serve no purpose but
  66. another place for Joel to cross-post.
