- Samit and others,
-
- I got the impression from your letters that the newsgroup
- alt.culture.bengali is *being* pushed. So, here are certain
- clarifying points:
-
- I am following the suggestions of Christopher Samuel,
- ( ccs@aber.ac.uk) who maintains the FAQ on the topic and this
- FAQ can be accessed from the relevent newsgroups.
-
-
- Unlike a soc.* group, an alt.* group can be created by
- almost anyone. And alt.* groups need not have a VOTING stage.
-
- However, since I proposed this group, I plan to have
- referundum 3 weeks after the posting appeared on alt.config
- and soc.culture.indian. The three weeks are required for all
- interested parties to read the charter and offer their opinions
- on the charter, purpose and the name of the group.
-
- After 3 weeks I would expect a nutral person with
- resources ( preferably someone who has no interest in the
- newsgroup or the destruction of it) to keep track of voting.
- The voting results will be posted in alt.config, soc.culture.
- indian, soc.culture.pakistan and in any other newsgroups of
- relevence. The newsgroup CAN STILL be created even if the
- newsgroup fails to win support but I would not PUSH for it,
- if it fails the vote. And I hope, it will pass.
-
- After the voting stage ( which will end 2 weeks
- after it is opened) I shall send out the nesgroup control
- message.
-
- This means that Samit and everyone else who think that
- A.c.b is not required, have 5 weeks to push their point of view.
- Now tell me, am I PUSHING IT??
-
- Now, to those who think that voting is mandatory,
- if we are willing to go through all that pain, we might
- as well move this newsgroup to soc.culture.* heirarchy or
- still better soc.lang.bengali, sci.lang.bengali or to
- talk.lang.bengali.
-
- I would be happy to answer any questions anyone might
- have in the following 5 weeks.
-
- I also need volunteers to help me through the voting
- process.
-
- Lastly, I would recommend that all postings connected
- to this newsgroup may also be cross posted in alt.config, so
- that a wider range of net populace will have access to it.
- Needless to say, every newsgroup in USENET is open to everyone
