  22. There's one vital difference - killfiles are a matter of _me_ 
  23. controlling what _I_ read, not me controlling someone else's reading 
  24. or someone else controlling my reading or anyone controlling what 
  25. anyone may write in the first place.

  27. Does anyone who dislikes kill files get upset at the net being divided 
  28. into newsgroups? The same principle is involved - enabling people to 
  29. filter out what they don't want to read. I don't think it's reasonable 
  30. to say there's any censorship involved here; the right to speak does 
  31. not impose an obligation to listen on anyone.

  33. There are many threads of discussion I'm not interested in, and many 
  34. posters who I can dismiss as uninteresting (to me) with a high degree 
  35. of confidence. Killfiles would simplify and speed up my newsreading 
  36. quite noticeably if they were available on my system.
