  13. Soprano finally lifts her nose out of the vocal score she's had it buried in
  14. and notes the rather startling changes that have occurred in the decor of
  15. the Place without her noticing.

  17. "Undersea, huh?"  
  18.  
  19. Reaching under her table, she withdraws a nondescript mesh duffel bag and
  20. disappears into the folks room.  A few minutes later, she reappears, dressed
  21. in a royal blue and black dive skin and carrying mask, snorkel and fins.
  22.  
  23. "What else could a diver wear to an undersea party?  Well, I suppose I
  24. *could* have put on all of my scuba gear -- but it's tough to party when
  25. you're wearing about 60 pounds of tank and regulator and lead weights, not
  26. to mention being encased in 1/4-inch of neoprene! ;-)"

  28. She goes over to the bar, produces a dollar bill and gets a rum-spiked
  29. eggnog from Mike, then wanders to the chalk line.

  31. "There's just under four hours left of 1992 here in SoCal.  It's been quite a
  32. year for me -- a lot of pain, and a lot of joy, and a lot of times when I
  33. wasn't sure just which of the two I was feeling.  Friendships have evolved,
  34. and so has my marriage.  Thanks to my husband, I've been able to take time
  35. to evaluate many aspects of my life, to explore options that I didn't know
  36. that I had.  It has been interesting and in many ways disconcerting -- but
  37. at least I haven't been stagnating!"

  39. She raises her mug in salute to all the patrons of the Place before she
  40. drains it.  "I wish you all the happiest of new years -- and for myself, may
  41. the process of growth and change that I started in 1992 continue unbroken."

  45. She then joins the line at the VPM, and when her turn comes, gets a white
  46. clam pizza (olive oil, garlic, parmesan cheese and clams) which she offers
  47. to share with anyone who's interested.
