  12.      Many people go around celebrating lots of holidays this year. . .and try 
  13. to make their greetings match those of other faiths. . . from happy hannukhah 
  14. to 'seasons greetings'
  15.  
  16.     Me, I'm a Christian, and I can't help that.
  17.  
  18.      I believe that 1992 years, give or take, a child was born to a young woman
  19. named Mary, wedded to Joseph. . .
  20.  
  21.      Mary, who knew she might be shamed by bearing a child before properly 
  22. married,
  23.  
  24.       Joseph, who may well have feared he'd never be first in his bride's 
  25. heart.
  26.  
  27.      Perhaps, because of scripture, they knew their child was slated to die, 
  28. but they raised him and loved him, through all of the troubles this must have 
  29. lead to.
  30.  
  31.      And that child became a man, who brought meaning to the teachings they had
  32. all lived by, and who brought to us all a new message from God. . . that we 
  33. need not be perfect, that what we TRY to do means more than a bunch of old 
  34. fashioned rules.

  36.      He wasn't perfect himself.  He got mad at merchants in the temple, and 
  37. even got mad at innocent fig trees on occasion. . . but in the end, when it 
  38. counted, he let himself be tortured to death, to die in one of the most painful
  39. and humiliating ways possible.
  40.  
  41.      Many people have asked why he had to be crucified, and some even claim 
  42. that suffering was necessary to expiate our sins. . .
  43.  
  44.      Me, I just picture a man who knew that we would be faced with problems we 
  45. would never feel we could surmount. . . and so he showed his people that, even 
  46. when life is darkest, there is still hope for miracles. . . and indeed, on the 
  47. thrid day , he rose from the dead and sent out his people to spread the news of
  48. this.

  50.      Many of those who claim to speak for him mis-state his words, and many 
  51. people, either intentionally or mistakenly, use the beleif that people have in 
  52. this man incorrectly. . . but to me, that is meaningless; what Christ IS means 
  53. nothing to what people try to say he is.
  54.  
  55.      Tommorrow I shall celebrate the birth of this man/god/whatever he was.
  56. And I hope that you will find joy on this day, regardless of your own beliefs.
  57. But even if you do not find happiness with the belief that this HAPPENED, I 
  58. hope you will find happiness in  the meaning. . .
