- Philip finally takes notice of the discussions concerning hat wearing. He
- stares into his mug of early morning tea and is silent for a moment. Then, he
- looks up at the rest of the populace.
- "Well, I'm glad to see you all enjoy your hats so much. I almost never wear
- one anymore, but that was not really my doing. I went through several different
- hat stages, one where I was wearing Panama hats a la the our friend the Doctor
- (fifth incarnation, remember, Professor?) Then I went on to fishing hats ...
- But what I remember most is always being teased or taunted about what I was
- wearing, whether in New York or not. People just love to make fun of others who
- dress or look different (not anyone here at the Place, though. We're too smart
- for that). Eventually I got tired of being bothered all the time, and I just
- stopped wearing a hat (possible in New York, as we don't have the weather
- conditions that some of you have).
- I don't feel bad about not wearing a hat ... but if anyone tells me to stop
- wearing my seven-foot royal-blue scarf, that's a different story all together!
