  10.     Philip finally takes notice of the discussions concerning hat wearing. He
  11. stares into his mug of early morning tea and is silent for a moment. Then, he
  12. looks up at the rest of the populace.
  13.     "Well, I'm glad to see you all enjoy your hats so much. I almost never wear
  14. one anymore, but that was not really my doing. I went through several different
  15. hat stages, one where I was wearing Panama hats a la the our friend the Doctor
  16. (fifth incarnation, remember, Professor?) Then I went on to fishing hats ...
  17. But what I remember most is always being teased or taunted about what I was
  18. wearing, whether in New York or not. People just love to make fun of others who
  19. dress or look different (not anyone here at the Place, though. We're too smart
  20. for that). Eventually I got tired of being bothered all the time, and I just
  21. stopped wearing a hat (possible in New York, as we don't have the weather
  22. conditions that some of you have).
  23.     I don't feel bad about not wearing a hat ... but if anyone tells me to stop
  24. wearing my seven-foot royal-blue scarf, that's a different story all together!
