  11. Splash listens to the hat question with interest ... "I personally don't
  12. wear a hat very often.  On the other hand, with all of the UV problems
  13. down under (the hole in the ozone layer is already _here_), I wear a hat
  14. whenever I go outdoors for any length of time.  Being a sun-hat, I went
  15. for something that had a wide brim, and because I usually wear it for my
  16. field work, it had to be sturdy.  I eventually found one that suited my
  17. needs, in the form of an imitation akubra hat ... the great Australian
  18. hat, but made completely out of leather.  I think this is also called an
  19. Australian bush hat.  Basically it's a version of the American cowboy hat.
  20. Mine has a wire inside the rim, allowing me to set the brim wherever I
  21. want, which is really handy when driving a boat into the sun, or avoiding
  22. glare off the water.  I've added a chin strap made of medium cord; this
  23. prevents me losing it in the strong winds we get here (Perth is supposed
  24. to be the windiest Australian city).

  28. well get a new hat for Christmas ... Lesley has been threatening.  Still,
  29. as a work hat, it's excellent.  It's quite heavy, being heavy duty leather
  30. (unlined), and sits firmly on my head ... it does the job it's supposed
  31. to, but class, well ... ;-)
