- The second hypothesis is the correct one, according to a story in the LA
- Times within the last few years. The "Sig" was a highway department
- employee apparently responsible for feeding information on highway
- conditions to the media, which honored him with the expression SigAlert. I
- presume a search in the National Newspaper Index or through whatever
- electronic database you can come up with would reveal the story in the
- Times.

- I suggest narrowing the search to the last two years of Times. I know the
- story was that recent.
