  16. There are youth hostels around California that are probably the most
  17. affordable.
  18. Campgrounds also are pretty good, but some fill up and require
  19. reservations!!!!
  20. Another alternative is the "apartment motel" that has kitchenettes - if
  21. you're
  22. willing to make your own food to save some money.  There actually is a
  23. nice, old,
  24. a bit funky, one here in La Jolla (the Shell Beach motel/apts)... which
  25. has rooms
  26. of varying prices, right across from the cove, and downtown so you could
  27. walk
  28. everywhere.  (price range I believe was $50-up, which is cheap for a
  29. kitchenette
  30. in downtown LJ across from the water!)...
  31. Some places are cheaper on weekends because they handle mostly business
  32. travelers.
