- There are youth hostels around California that are probably the most
- affordable.
- Campgrounds also are pretty good, but some fill up and require
- reservations!!!!
- Another alternative is the "apartment motel" that has kitchenettes - if
- you're
- willing to make your own food to save some money. There actually is a
- nice, old,
- a bit funky, one here in La Jolla (the Shell Beach motel/apts)... which
- has rooms
- of varying prices, right across from the cove, and downtown so you could
- walk
- everywhere. (price range I believe was $50-up, which is cheap for a
- kitchenette
- in downtown LJ across from the water!)...
- Some places are cheaper on weekends because they handle mostly business
- travelers.
- Good luck!
