- This is real interesting, for I,too, got a juniper Bonsai for Christmas.
- My wife also got me a starter toolset and a Beginner's book on Indoor
- Bonsai. The author's name was Rice or Price. I found the book lacking
- and I believe that it is because it an UK book aimed at Bonsai clubs or
- societies. It's really depressing to read in the book that I should buy
- "Innes No. 2" potting soil.
-
- I went to some on the local bookstores and found that Bonsai books can
- be very expensive and I begin to debate whether I should buy another
- book or another Bonsai! I did find that some of the local Used Books
- stores had a few books on Bonsai, but they were either German
- translations or UK books again. In the retail bookstores, the cheapest
- ones seem to be from the Brooklyn Botanlogical(?) Gardens. They are
- reasonably priced and seem to be complete. It seems that Bonsai is
- divided into a number of camps: indoor, outdoor, Asian plants and
- Non-Asian plants. With these choices, you can have a hobby that can be
- expensive or inexpensive.
-
- An interesting side note. My wife bought the Bonsai from a local Korean
- Church and the book and tools from a Bonsai shop. I went back to the
- shop and asked to trade in the book from a more Americanized one and was
- refused. They said that they make no refunds on books. I'll be shopping
- elsewhere.
-
- I'm looking for a good book on how to prune them, most of what I have
- read say to prune them until they look the way you want them to be. Now
- all I have to do is to figure out what I want it to look like.
-
- I'm very interested in what your plans are. Do you intend to just do with one
- plant or get more?
