- Ed, is this really available everywhere?
-
- I'm in Dayton, OH. A commercial feed from Uunet, PSI Net, etc., would
- cost me at LEAST $24,000. I know of a company in Dayton that's paying
- over $30,000 for uucp access alone to Uunet.
-
- I can get a connection from OARNET for a reasonable price (don't know
- about 56k, but V.32bis/... slip maxes out at about $350/mo.).
- Unfortunately, you have to add $100,000 to that yearly if you want to
- resell/redistribute your info/connection.
-
- I know that Msen has a GREAT deal for the 313 areacode. Everything is
- local, right? I don't know about your commercial restrictions, but
- you have a great setup. Unfortunately it's specific to your areacode.
-
- In MA, CA, NY, etc. connections are fairly plentiful and cheap, but
- elsewhere, the charges aren't so cheap. This is especially true of
- small and medium sized towns.
-
- Of course, I wouldn't complain if I didn't have a solution ;-).
-
- I'm working on my Local Internet Gateway (LIG) system and advocating
- Pagesat's receivers for bulk NetNews reception.
-
- Cutting out the vast majority of Long Distance is the only way to make
- Internet (News, email, some ftp/telnet/irc, etc.) access available to
- everyone.
