  28. Well, I have a boring 386 crawling along at 20 MHz, and a Digiport
  29. *dumb* 8-port card (with 16550's), and when I'm cranking 3 (hardware
  30. flow controlled) news feeds at DTE rates of 1 @ 57.6K, 2 @ 38.4K, I only
  31. see about 10-15% of my machine eaten up.  My "state-of-the-art" OS is
  32. ISC's 386/ix 2.0.2, and I run FAS 2.09.1 as my serial driver.  Thruput
  33. on each port approximates 1600 chars/sec.  I don't know the price tag on
  34. the Digiport, but the price of the OS was $2K-ish several years ago.
  35. Standard off-the-shelf parts work like a champ for me!

  37. Oh, yeah, while all that's going on, cnews is happy to continue batching
  38. faster than the serial ports can get rid of 'em -- while it's unpacking
  39. incoming batches.
