- Hi.
-
- I've just installed LInux 0.98pl5 and have been planning to
- get a linux-based BBS up. Currently I'm running a Remote Access bbs,
- connected to a few local networks as well as one national network.
- All of these networks are of fidonet compatibility, thus, meaning
- that I get Fidonet packets tossed daily into my HD. Now with the
- installation of linux, I'm also planning to get an Internet feed.
-
- Now the question is:-
-
- Is there such a linux(unix)-based BBS out there that has the following
- basic features?:-
-
- o can procoss fidonet mail packets(be it the normal ?.SU1 packets
- or the Opus-type packets).
- o has built-in mailer capabilities(or at least, there is a mailer
- out there that I can use, in conjunction with this BBS system.)
-
- Other features like, uummm, games and file transfers, I can worry
- about till later, but right now, my main concern is actually finding
- that particular BBS system.
-
- Does anyone know of such a BBS system? If there is such a system,
- but the mailer doesn't come with it, which mailer would you suggest?
-
- Like, you probably would've figured out by now, that I'm used to
- the Dos-based BBS systems which require a mailer as a front-end for
- the usual dialing out for mail, or waiting for mail to come in, or
- to transfer users to the actual BBS system.
-
- Hmm while I'm at it, can someone explain the terms "SLIP" and
- "Internet drop"? I've encountered these terms, but not sure what
- they mean. If I'm correct, does SLIP mean a 24hour connection?
-
- Any help appreciated!
-
- Thanks..
- Ed.
