- H(: I think the point of all isn't how much $$$ do the cars cost
- H(: but how many unique, rare and non-expendable cars are or have
- H(: been wrecked in making of movies. (I think many subscribers
- H(: of this newsgroup agree with that...)
- H(:
- H(: For example, if someone wants to wreck an authentic Ford GT-40
- H(: because he wants the crash to look authentic. They wouldn't
- H(: just wreck $1M worth of steel, aluminium and plastic but one
- H(: of the abt. 200 GT-40s ever built. Think about it...

- Hollywood used to destroy valuable automobiles, but with the
- Recession and Budget's that just isn't done Today. Frankly, I don't
- have any problem with destroying a mass produced commodity since
- anyone can walk in and write a Check (in Canada we spell that word
- "cheque") or get Financing and be an "owner".
-
- I do find it distasteful if the vehicle in question is of
- antique/vintage/classic or Special Interest distinction. Generally
- they'll purchase an old "shitter" and give it a coat of paint (talking
- cars of the fifties) or perhaps purchase some old shitbox and then
- spend $5K to put a fibreglass body on it and then toss it off a cliff.
-
- While on the subject of Hollywood, have another story to relate.
- Toronto is very popular with those "lotus land" exec's (combination of
- a .78 Dollar, good Technicians and Big Buildings {read as it could
- pass for NYC, or Chicago etc.}). Anyways, I get a call from some
- Agency (they were looking for a particular car for the Hero to drive
- in the Movie), seems someone local told them I had "The CAR".
-
- During the exchange (talking several phone calls), I'm told the
- "Hero" drives this vehicle in 3 scenes and I'm asked how much I want
- for the rental. I tell them $4K and want the specific times and
- date(s) since I'll drive the vehicle out to the site. To make a long
- story short we bargain and now I agree to accept $2,500.
-
- Get a call the next day and am told "it's a Deal" BUT they need the
- vehicle for 6 weeks. I tell them, that personally my time for six
- weeks is worth more than a couple of grand, never mind the Car.
-
- The "truth" was that it would take a day to do the shoot but the
- Producer wanted a set of wheels to drive around Town during his stay.
- Well, that ended the negotiations and I finally did see the Movie on
- Pay TV a year later.........said "Hero" drove an SL Series
- Merc........;-) (but of course I'm sure it was a FREEie)
