  12. I can't tell you much about bluegrass festivals but I can list some good  
  13. Fiddlers Conventions in Southwest Va:

  15. Fiddler's Grove, held over Memorial Day weekend in Fiddlers Grove, NC.   
  16. Well attended with nice campgrounds.
  17.  
  18. Mt. Airy, NC, held the 1st weekend in June.  VERY well attended by  
  19. old-time fans from the East Coast.  Not much bluegrass.  Decent camping.
  20.  
  21. Elk Creek, Va, held the last weekend in June.  A small, local event, about  
  22. even between O/T and BG.  Decent camping, very pretty spot. Hot.

  24. Clifftop, WVa, held the last weekend in July (weekend before Galax).
  25. This state-sponsored event is titled "Appalachian String Band Music  
  26. Festival".  It has contests in the major old time categories only, many  
  27. bands in a festival setting, and demonstrations from older "masters".  
  28. Excellant camping.  Very well attended by O/T musicians from east of the  
  29. Mississippi.

  31. Galax, Va  The grandaddy event for our area.  Held the first wed-sat in  
  32. August, (people pull in to the grounds the weekend before and stay all  
  33. week).  Lots of BG in the grounds, lots of both in the competitions.  
  34. Decent camping. Can be hot.  Tent campers tend to be crowded out by the  
  35. RVs.  A huge event.  be sure to go at least one time.

  37. Fries, Va  The weekend after Galax, and very near to Galax.  A nice local  
  38. event in a scenic little town on the New River.  Lots of interesting local  
  39. music.

  41. There are many others.  These are my personal favs.
