  21. Happy, sad, scientific, unscientific, ... it doesn't matter. If you
  22. look at the length of our existence compared with the age of the
  23. universe, you'll see that we are so insignificant that we practically
  24. don't exist at all. There may be a purpose to it, but purpose doesn't
  25. imply meaning (IMO). Someday our dead body may fertilize a beautiful
  26. tree, but that gives no meaning to my life. Intellectual analysis,
  27. emotional outbursts, and physical violence will not change the
  28. situation. We are eternal is the sense that matter/energy is eternal.
  29. The matter/energy that makes up our body and our thoughts will
  30. continue to exist in other forms after our death, but there will be no
  31. consciousness.

  33. You want meaning. How's this... we are being raised like cattle to be
  34. eventually slaughtered to provide food for some (essentially
  35. mechanistic) cosmic entity that we don't know about or even suspect.
  36. Our ignorance is by design. Unlike cattle, we have the ability to
  37. awake, but we are being "drugged" and/or "hypnotized" so that we don't
  38. resist our fate. We are supplied with religion, philosophy, science,
  39. sex, drugs, rock and roll, politics, happiness, and other many other
  40. substances and ideas to keep us under control. Our culture (especially
  41. television) continually suggests (in the hypnotic sense) certain
  42. beliefs and attitudes. We are exposed to it constantly, but most
  43. people don't realize the effect. We march hazy-eyed to our doom with
  44. only a vague feeling that something is wrong -- a feeling that maybe
  45. reality is not what we think it is. If that vague feeling increases to
  46. a certain level of intensity, then it becomes "angst". People try to
  47. avoid angst, but real angst is the threshold of our salvation. Don't
  48. avoid it.  Don't "resolve" it. LISTEN TO IT! It's trying to tell us
  49. something.  It's message is much deeper and more profound than
  50. financial problems or relationship problems or the myriad "little"
  51. problems of our everyday "life".
