- 1) The dropped part of the pavement is known as a 'carriage crossing',
- and is part of the pavement, not part of the road.

- 2) Practically, pedestrians have priority whenever they want it!
- A car driver can't run them over deliberately, even it they have
- no *right* to be there. Even on motorways!
