- They put these sort of bridges in (and the equally grotty underpasses) because
- they are obliged to provide a crossing point for pedestrians, but they are
- always so far out of the way that nobody ever uses them; instead they just
- drive about in their cars, adding to the congestion. I remember that there was
- a (literally) 3 storey high footbridge over the M8 Kingston Bridge north side
- in Glasgow, which now looks rather peculiar standing over the motorway with
- the ends removed to prevent people using it any more...
