  10. Marilyn was trying to convince me that the plague of feline leukemia
  11. was just a mental plant given to UFO abductees.  She said these people
  12. had never owned cats at all.  How'd she know?  No cat toys, she said.
  13. No cat food.  "Maybe they threw out the cat food," I said, "or gave it
  14. to neighborhood cats until it ran out."  "And the cat toys?" she asked.
  15.  "Threw 'em out; part of the grieving process," I deployed.  Besides, I
  16. had already risked a lot checking out the Jews, and I wasn't about to
  17. get into the bakery business again.  Not with Richard injured, and half
  18. the audience gone.
