- The subject brings to mind a true story from my past. My previous
- job was with a British computer manufacturer. One year we got to write our
- own entries for the company telephone list. Preferred format was surname,
- initials, some kind of description (v. short), location code. This last
- was 3 letters followed by a 2-digit number. E.g., mine read
- Hamilton, A.D. 7905 project DAL01.
- A couple of days after the new phone directory was released, I looked
- up a colleague's number to find he had described himself as "Ace prgmr".
- I hurried along to congratulate Mr. Maclaren (for such was his name) but he
- told me to check out the entry a few lines before his. It read.
