- On a recent dinner date, the restaurant was playing
- barely-audible music over the speakers. Suddenly
- my date's eyes lit up. "Do you know what song this
- is?"
-
- I strained to listen. "Brown Eyed Girl, right?"
-
- "Yup. Know who sings it?" she asked.
-
- "Um...Um...Um... Van Morrison, right?" Keep in
- mind that I've heard a guitar player in a local
- pub I frequent play this song at least 200 times
- in my life.
-
- Later, back home, I excused myself for a few minutes,
- went into my room, modemed out to the school computer,
- ftp'ed out to nevada.edu (which has a copious quantity
- of guitar tablature) and downloaded the chords to
- Brown-Eyed Girl.
-
- I played it for her later that night, and let me tell
- you, I scored BIG brownie points.
-
- I love the information age.
