  29. It was just a simple change the front pads and rear shoes job.  Probably less
  30. than $200.  She does mostly highway driving so she doesn't put a lot of strain
  31. on her brakes.

  37. A friend of mine has a 1984 VW GTI with around 120k miles.  He looks as
  38. cars as investments, and plan to keep it forever.  (it looks like new)
  39. Soon the time will come for him to replace the clutch, which is about $1500.
  40. He figures that he'll have the engine rebuilt at the same time, and it will
  41. be good for another 150k or so miles.

  43. He is kind of crazy, he owns three cars:

  45. 1984 GTI        150k miles    his wife now drives it to work
  46. 1987 Scirroco 16V    90k miles    he drives this to work
  47. 1990 Mazda Miata    10k miles    never sees rain or snow

  49. He washes and waxes all three cars at least once a week, and changes the
  50. oil every 1000 miles.  Any repairs, no matter how slight, are taken care
  51. of immediately.
